Abstract
The diagnosis in gastrointestinal bleeding of obscure origin especially lower gastrointestinal bleeding is a difficult problem and provably remains frequently undiagnosed.
For the surgeon, the main technical problem is that even when identifid by frequently impalpable, and invisible to the naked eye unless they are actively bleeding at the time of surgery.
We described an efficient sequence of steps for diagnosis in lower gastrointestinal bleeding, which is gastrofiberscopy, colonoscopy, small bowel radiography, radionuclide scan followed by mesenteric angiography.
Intra-operative endoscopy can be reserved when endoscopy and radiography are negative in gastrointestinal bleeding of obscure origin.
The report summarized and analysed out experience and review of literature.
